WAMARE SHIBAMATA HOTEL
Conversion from detached house to traditional Japanese inn
-
Luxurious detached traditional Japanese inn with a "kura (storehouse)" motif in the historic sightseeing area of Shibamata.
-
A Japanese modern style was expressed by changing the upper part of the exterior walls and the roof to galvalume, making the entrance door a slide door and designing the windows on the second floor with louvered lattices, so as to melt in with the historic sightseeing area of Shibamata.
-
As there was an area of the building in noncompliance with the rules, the breach was eliminated and compliance was ensured by reducing that part of the building.
-
Many openings were created to allow light and ventilation, and to give a sense of freedom.
-
By placing the kitchen in the entrance area, the design of the room was emphasised and the space was made more spacious.
